Empowering community health with free check-up camp

In an initiative aimed at fostering community health awareness, the Rotary Club of Jamshedpur West organised a free health check-up camp at Panchayat Bhawan, Chota Gamharia. The event emphasized the importance of knowing vital health numbers as a fundamental step towards improving overall well-being.

The health camp saw the active participation of 102 individuals, including men, women, and children. Rotary Club Jamshedpur West provided complimentary blood pressure, glucose level, and general body check-ups, coupled with the distribution of free medicines.

During the examinations, a significant number of participants were identified with high blood pressure and elevated blood sugar levels (diabetes). Dr. Ajay Kumar, addressing the gathered individuals, emphasized that lifestyle modifications, including reduced salt and sugar intake, along with daily walks and exercise, play a pivotal role in controlling diseases like hypertension and diabetes.

Underlining the commitment to holistic health, the camp included an oral mouth cancer screening conducted by a team from Meherbai Tata Memorial Hospital (MTMH), led by Dr. Sujata Mitra and Rotarian Dr. Vanita Pandey. Dr. Shaila Paul and lab technician Shashi efficiently managed the screening process, with 85 participants undergoing examinations. Fortunately, no suspicious cases were identified. Dr. Shaila Paul advised maintaining oral hygiene and abstaining from tobacco, paan, khaini, and cigarettes to prevent oral cancer.

Acknowledging the success of the health camp, Rotary Club Jamshedpur West President Neeta Agarwal, Secretary Ashok Jha, Project Positive Health Chairman Rishi, and other Rotarians including Sanjeev Saigal, Anupama Sehgal, Mithilesh Jha, and Varsha Gandhi played pivotal roles in contributing to the community's well-being.
