The regional employment exchange at Ranchi will get a facelift to convert it into Model Career Centre (MCC) and is likely to become a counselling oriented centre to guide job aspirants in shaping their career as per their aptitude and skill sets.
The MCC is part of the Central Government’s mission to implement National Career Service (NCS) which aims to provide a variety of employment related services under one roof. The NCC has been conceptualised as a comprehensive, multi-pronged transformational project that is expected to slowly replace the traditional employment exchange.
“We have prepared the map, layout and have also trained some staffs. We hope to completely renovate the existing building by the end of this year. The work is being done with complete assistance from centre,” said Deputy Director, Employment, Satish Suman.
The Centre has granted around `50-lakh for renovating the employment exchange at Ranchi however as the NCS envisages other employment exchanges will also be patterned on the model career centre. To carry forward the NCS’ objective the department of labour, Employment & Training would develop employment exchanges at Jamshedpur and Dhanbad into a model centre. However, the employment exchanges at two places will be upgraded entirely from State’s resources. Other employment exchanges will also be included in the national network represented by NCS.
The model centre will connect local youth and other job seekers with all possible job opportunities in a transparent and effective manner through the use of technology as well as through counseling and training. While the state-of-the- art technology drive National Career Service Portal will provide information about available job opportunities and resources for Career Centres to function effectively, the Career Centres would be the pivotal outreach and counseling interface of the National Career Service for teeming millions of aspiring youth from rural, semi-urban areas as well as from disadvantaged sections of the society.
The centre will be staffed by two personnel trained in career counseling out of which one will also function as psychologist besides a receptionist and an IT staff that will look into specific requirements of a job aspirant. Among the features that will crown a centre as model includes self-help kiosk, reception, water cooler, washroom, waiting lounge, television that will show career related programme besides other amenities for the manpower that will run the centre. The department of Employment has requested Ranchi Institute of Neuro-Psychiatry & Allied Sciences (RINPAS) and Central Institute of Psychiatry (CIP) to provide specialists.
“We have requested RINPAS and CIP to provide two specialists each to counsel students at the centre. We are awaiting their response. These specialists will assess strengths of an aspirant and we will work on students accordingly,” pointed out Suman.
The NCS also aims to setup a well connected network of institutions, organizations, model career centres, national portal for data regarding employment among others to transform the existing employment exchanges completely.
