The Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) has expressed displeasure towards employers who have not submitted their employee’s core banking account number with IFSC code to facilitate allotment of Universal Provident Fund Account Number (UAN).
“We had given the option of either mentioning the Aadhaar card number or bank account number of each employee connected with the Provident Fund (PF). Jharkhand has performed best in this region.
However, there are 2,900 employers or organizations that have not mentioned the required details,” said Samarendra Kumar, Regional PF Commissioner, Grade I during a Press conference here on Friday.
“We have issued show cause notices to these organizations. In case, they fail to follow, the matter will be
forwarded to court,” added Kumar.
Notably, EPFO had informed all the organisations about the newly introduced norm through SMS or e-mail. Employers will have to furnish the information of existing members by October 15.
On September 18, Central PF Commissioner KK Jalan had issued directives on the mentioned change with PF for making UAN operational.
“We aim to complete the UAN process by October 10. UAN Card will be given to each employee. Presently, the card making is in pipeline,” said Saurabh Suman Jha, Regional PF Commissioner, Grade II.
There are around 4.92 lakh contributing members in Provident Fund in EPFO branches at Ranchi and Jamshedpur.
UAN will help an employee to maintain the same PF account even if he or she switches to another organisation. The members of the fund who are presently not employees of any establishment covered under EPF and Miscellaneous Provision Act, 1952 will provide their core banking account with IFSC code of the bank branch, a crossed cheque folio with member’s name printed thereon and their previous PF account number themselves at any regional or sub regional office of EPFO.

Kumar said that the EPFO has already captured all the bank account details of around 1.80 crore employees and Aadhaar numbers of 28.2 lakh employees.
