A 70 years old woman was stabbed to death by unidentified criminals at her residence at Ashok Nagar locality under Argora police station of the state capital.
According to the police the incident took place on Friday afternoon around 1 PM and the investigation has revealed that she was assaulted by two criminals. The incident has put a question mark on the law and order of Ranchi since the crime took place in a posh locality.
The deceased identified as Mavika Sinha was the wife of the retired DGM of State Bank of India, Vijay Kumar Sinha and she was staying along with her husband at her residence on road number 4 of the colony. Sinha had gone somewhere in the neighbourhood when criminals killed his wife.
Sources said that criminals were apparently acquainted with her since when criminals came to her residence, she offered them flattened rice and gud to eat.
Sources close to the deceased said that after having flattened rice and gud criminals asked her to handover keys of lockers and almirah. They were apparently looking for some documents also. But the lady refused, after which criminals slit her throat and stabbed multiple times in her stomach.
Their maidservant first spotted the lady lying in a pool of blood and raised an alarm. The victim is the mother of three sons and a daughter. But all of them settled outside Jharkhand and abroad and they are well to do.
One of the sons received information about the brutal incident with her mother who called his friend in Ranchi to seek assistance. But before anybody could reach, she had died. Her post-mortem was completed at RIMS and the last rites were performed.
Sources in the police said that they have made some breakthroughs and criminals will be caught very soon. “We have collected some evidence which will be very helpful in solving this case. The CCTV footage is being examined. Some jewelleries are missing from her body. But we have found almirah intact,” said an official of Ranchi police
But despite more than 48 hours police have not been able to ascertain the motive of the crime. There is no clarity whether it was a well-planned murder or the criminals had come to loot valuable items knowing that she stays along with her husband. The CCTV footage is very hazy and it is hard to identify suspects.
Sources in the police said they will start a technical investigation to crack this case.
