Elaborate security measures for Makar Sankranti, focus on cockfights

As the city gears up for the festive fervor of Makar Sankranti and Tusu, the Jamshedpur district police have intensified security measures to ensure a peaceful celebration. Over 3,000 police personnel, including approximately 200 women officers, have been strategically deployed at various locations across the city, with a particular emphasis on popular festivities and potential areas of concern.

The renowned cockfighting events, notorious for associated gambling activities, have come under the scrutiny of law enforcement. East Singhbhum SSP Kishore Kaushal emphasized the need for heightened vigilance, especially at Domuhani, a focal point for fairs, and along riverbanks where celebrations are anticipated. Officer-in-Charge at local police stations have received directives to increase surveillance on approach roads to major ghats and popular picnic spots.

The Tusu festival, celebrated with enthusiasm at Domuhani, Bhillaipahari, Ghaghidih, Parsudih, and Ghatshila, is expected to draw thousands of tribal participants. Special attention will be given to places witnessing cockfights to prevent any potential law and order disruptions.

In addition to the security measures, cultural and social organizations are gearing up for Tusu Mahotsav at key locations, including Domuhani, Sonari, and Itagarh. Tribals from the city and surrounding areas will participate in traditional celebrations, carrying idols of Goddess Tusu for immersion.

The Tusu Mela at Gopal Maidan promises to be a vibrant showcase of tribal culture, featuring artists and performers not only from Jharkhand but also from neighboring states like Odisha and Bengal. This annual gathering, organized by Jharkhand Ekta Manch, attracts large crowds with groups arriving early in the morning, bringing Tusu idols and choudals.

"Melas are a traditional part of Tusu, aiming to spotlight tribal culture and artisans. We have planned various contests during the mela," mentioned an official from the organizing committee, Tusu Mela Samiti, Itagarh.

As the city embraces the festivities, the collective efforts of law enforcement and cultural organizers aim to ensure a joyous and secure Makar Sankranti celebration for all residents.
