People of the steel city were stunned by the brutality on an 8-year-old girl on Sunday. The child was brutally raped by a 20-year-old youth at Ramjanam Nagar under Kadma police station area.
The accused Sanatan Sarda was, however, nabbed by the victim's parents as well as a group of local residents, and was subsequently handed over to the police. According to victim's mother, the girl was playing near her house, a woman living in the neighbourhood sent her to a local shop for buying something on Saturday evening.
As the girl did not return home for more than half hour, her anxious mother went in search of her and finally found her lying on the floor of a building in a semi-nude condition on Sunday morning. She called her husband and they found injuries on her private parts. The police are questioning the accused. The victim, terrified into silence after the incident, broke down and narrated the incident to her parents.
Deputy superintendent of police, Rajkishore Prasad confirmed that the police have arrested the accused Sanatan Sardar for allegedly raping the minor girl. "It is a heinous crime and we are investigating the incident. The accused had raped the girl thrice since the Saturday evening after he abducted her from the shop. The girl has revealed about the rape by Sanatan during questioning," said the DSP.
He said the girl has been sent to MGM Medical College and Hospital for a medical examination. According to police, the accused is originally from Chaibasa had come to his sister's house for the past one week. During his stay at Ramjanam Nagar, he had befriended the minor girl and had abducted the girl when she had come to a shop last night.
The police are also trying to find out whether any one of else was aware about the abduction of the girl by Sanatan and the subsequent rape. The accused Sanatan has been arrested under IPC section of 376. A police officer said that a case has been registered and the matter will be investigated.
