A handful of jail inmates, lodged in egg cells of Birsa Munda Central Jail, have been creating disturbance inside the jail and court lockup to build a pressure on the jail authorities to shift them to some other cell. Some of them even shouted slogans against the jail administration on January 5 inside the court lockup, complaining bad quality of food being provided to them in the jail.
“An FIR has been lodged in this regard at Kotwali Police Station charging them of disrupting government activities. Some of the jail inmates were protesting against jail authorities for being provided bad quality food inside the jail,” said Sadar DSP and Ranchi Police Spokesperson Vikas Chanrda Srivastava. Nikki Sharma, Amar Singh and Genda Singh and several others have been named in the FIR, he said.
The inmates during the protest even engaged themselves in scuffle with the police personnel deployed in the security of the court lockup.
Jail Superintendent Ashok Chaudhary however told that the inmates are being provided food as per the jail manual and Birsa Munda Central Jail is the only jail in Jharkhand which has a hospital having capacity of 200 beds in it.
“The disturbance was created just to build pressure on the jail authorities to transfer the inmates lodged in egg cell to some other place as no one wants to stay there,” said the Jail Superintendent.
