Efforts are on to set up IGNOU - LSC (Learner Support Centre) popularly known as IGNOU Study Centre at a tribal dominated degree college at Manika in Latehar district.
Former BJP MLA of Manika Harey Krishan Singh who represented Manika Vidhan Sabha seat on lotus symbol twice said, “I being a member of the Nilamber Pitamber university’s Syndicate made it a point to place this demand of IGNOU LSC at Manika degree college and I went on doing this in almost every Syndicate meeting held there.”
He said he even remained in touch with regional directorate of IGNOU in Ranchi over this issue.
Professor in charge of Manika degree college Mahender Ram said, “I wrote letters to registrar of NP university and regional director of IGNOU Ranchi detailing how one IGNOU LSC is needed for this degree college at Manika which is a tribal heartland and sulks in economic and educational deprivation.”
Ram said “Poverty comes in the way of the students of this college to pursue such courses that may open up new vistas for their livelihood and hence I made it an issue with regional directorate IGNOU to consider our request for IGNOU LSC here.”
He said this IGNOU frame here may help stem drain out of tribal students from here to other places.
Regional directorate IGNOU Ranchi has taken full note of the request and its regional director S Mohanty has sent us formats on our college Id mail for further pursuance of the matter said Ram.
About the courses that can be launched in IGNOU LSC if and when permission comes for it from the regional directorate IGNOU Mahender Ram said “We know sophisticated courses like fashion designing or interior designing or architect will not click here. We will have to adopt some such courses which are rooted in the milieu of the tribal like forestry, rain water harvesting structures, promotion of physical fitness to qualify for any state/ national hockey player or for that matter rural development or horticulture etc.”
