In a step to assess provision of quality education to students at government schools in State, Education Secretary K Ravi Kumar has decided to visit a government school in a division on every Saturday. The Education Secretary during his inspection will talk to teachers and children assessing the standard of education.
Apart from assessing the learning/teaching standard at different schools, the education secretary will also inspect the infrastructure facilities at schools such as school buildings, libraries, playgrounds, teacher-student ratio, use of modern methods of teaching among others.
Arrangement for cleanliness and observing the quality of food during the mid-day meal will also be included in their program. In this sequence, the inspection will start on November 5. The secretary has urged that the school he will inspect on November 5 will be surprise visit, as he does not want this information to reach the school in advance as if this happens, then their purpose will not be fulfilled.
The Education Secretary said that on the basis of inspection, a proposal would be made to upgrade the schools. For speedy resolution of problems, certain officers of the department and directorate have been appointed for each district. The Education Secretary said that it would be important for them to find out which school the District Education Officers inspected from time to time in their respective areas. When asked how the idea came to him, the secretary said that he has studied in government schools and knows the importance of inspection.
Recently, he went to a school, where he saw many such things, which surprised him a lot. After which he decided to go to school.
Education Minister JagarnathMahto has urged the officers of the School Education and Literacy Department to inspect the schools many times in the past. The Education Minister often visits the schools. On many occasions, the Education Minister has publicly told the officials that the situation will not change until the officers from the block-district to the directorate and the department includes inspection in their routine. If such a routine continues for at least one year, then the schools and students will be transformed.
Our special focus will be on the all-round development of schools. For this it is necessary to go to the field. Education is such a department, where we cannot bring much change by just sitting in the office. We have to see the problems of teachers and students down to the ground. For this you have to go to schools. Saturday is a holiday in the department, but schools are open on that day. In such a situation, we have decided that every Saturday I will suddenly go to a school in one of the divisions. I will decide about which school to go to, after going to the said division.
