Central probe agency Enforcement Directorate (ED) has secured eight days remand of liquor businessman Yogendra Tiwari, accused in the Jharkhand liquor scam. The ED on Friday produced Tiwari in local ED court and sought fourteen days remand of Tiwari.

Later the ED court gave 8 days remand to ED. The remand period will start from Saturday. In such a situation, the court sent him to jail today in judicial custody. The ED has arrested Yogendra Tiwari on Thursday evening. This is the first arrest by ED in the liquor scam case. The ED investigating the liquor scam, had simultaneously raided 34 places on August 23. Among those locations, raids were conducted at Yogendra Tiwari's Deoghar and other places.

In this case, ED had raided 34 locations simultaneously on August 23. These locations include Yogendra Tiwari’s warehouse located in front of Hotel Siddharth in Deoghar, a residence located near Dr Rajiv Pandey Hospital in Bumpass Town, M/s Santhal Pargana Builders Private Limited located in D-2 of Harmu Housing Colony and two locations in Jamtara.

In the reasons given by ED for taking Yogendra on remand, it is mentioned that Yogendra Tiwari opened bank accounts in the name of many of his employees and he himself used to operate them.

Not only this, Yogendra Tiwari used the names of his employees for illegal sand business and liquor business. He portrayed the names of his employees as his partners but kept complete control of the business.

Yogendra Tiwari, along with Prem Prakash who is the accused in illegal mining and land scams, took complete control of the liquor business in Jharkhand in the year 2021 with the help of high-ranking bureaucrats and leaders.

In this regard, ED has registered a case (case number ECIR/RNZO/09/2022) by taking together more than a dozen FIRs registered in different police stations of different districts of Santhal Pargana. Yogendra Tiwari is also accused of money laundering.

At the same time, Yogendra Tiwari's brother Amrendra Tiwari also has a residence on the second floor of SBI Building in Kaushiki Radhika Regency Apartment, Jharudih in Bekarbandh, Dhanbad and flat number 402 in Station Road Mihijam, Jamtara. Yogendra Tiwari also has his own residence in Station Road, Mihijam, Jamtara.

Last year, ED had arrested Prem Prakash, a favorite of politicians and bureaucrats, in the illegal mining case. When ED raided Prem Prakash's hideout, a huge amount of documents related to liquor syndicate were seized from there.
