The Enforcement Directorate is continuing with the interrogation of mining department officials in the alleged illegal mining case in the State, which is said to be in the tune of over Rs 1000 crore. Sources said the ED officials are interrogating the District Mining Officer of Sahebganj for the last five days.
The ED team has already arrested JMM leader Pankaj Mishra and his close confidant Bachchu Yadav in the illegal mining scam case and has sent them to jail. Notably, more than half a dozen people have been questioned in this case so far. Also, a ship worth Rs 30 crores has also been seized and bank transactions worth crores have been recovered.
After arresting power broker Prem Prakash on Friday, the ED is set to interrogate Kolkata based businessman Amit Agrawal. The businessman's name had surfaced in the case of Rs 50 lakh transaction to senior advocate Rajiv Kumar of Jharkhand High Court. On the complaint of Agarwal, Kolkata police had arrested advocate Rajiv Kumar allegedly with Rs 50 lakh cash.
Amit Agrawal had made a written complaint on July 31 at the Hair Street police station in Kolkata that in the name of managing public interest litigation against him regarding investment of black money of politicians and bureaucrats in shell companies, Rajiv Kumar demanded Rs one crore. Later, Amit Agarwal's name was dropped from the said PIL. Rs 50 lakh was to be paid in the first instalment. When Rajiv Kumar reached Kolkata the Bengal Police laid a trap and arrested him. The ED has received information that it was Amit Agarwal, who called Rajiv Kumar to Kolkata under a conspiracy and got him arrested.
