The Election Commission of India ( ECI) launched ERONet, a web-based a system to integrate. Under this system, people can get register for voter ID and get details of voter card changed online. The system is designed in a way to check inaccuracy and duplicity of votes. East Singhbhum deputy election officer Gayatri Kumari launched ERONnet.
Addressing a press conference here Gayatri Kumari said the main objective of launching the concept is to simplify the process of making changes including own name in the electoral roll in a flawless manner besides screening bonafied voters.
" From now it will be easy for people to get enrolled in the electoral roll and also making necessary changes like name and address. But, the main objective is to screen the genuine voters. There are several voters who possess more than one voter I-card registered in different places. But, with the launch of the ERO-net no voter can possess more than one voter I-card," she said.
She added that ERONet will be linked to a single server based in Delhi. " Those people possessing more than one I- card will have to surrender the rest otherwise when the election office starts the process of scanning such people will have to give their place of choice from the constituency they want to vote. The other cards will become null and void," she explained.
An official added that people earlier used to approach block level officers (BlOs) for registration, deletion and correction of their votes ahead of elections.
After online registration, he said, voters will get a unique ID, with which they can check the status of the application till the completion of the registration process. The major benefit of this system is that the voter can upload personal details at his or her level. This will reduce chances of mistakes in voter card details. Then, the process will be simple.
