The Election Commission of India has extended the deadline for filing claims, objections and corrections in Jharkhand’s draft electoral rolls under the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) till September 30, Chief Electoral Officer K Ravi Kumar said on Tuesday.
Describing it as the final extension, Kumar said the decision was taken after requests from various stakeholders and in view of the number of Forms 6, 7 and 8 being submitted. The earlier deadline had been extended from September 4 to September 15.
Eligible citizens, particularly those who are yet to be included in the draft roll, can submit Form 6 with the required documents through ECINET or their respective Booth Level Officers. Those attaining the age of 18 by October 1, 2026 and whose names are missing from the draft roll have been urged to use the opportunity.
Form 7 can be used to raise objections or seek deletion of a name on prescribed grounds, while Form 8 is meant for correcting entries, changing addresses or transferring registration to another polling station or constituency.
Kumar clarified that submission of Form 7 does not automatically lead to deletion. A name can be removed only after an inquiry and hearing by the concerned Electoral Registration Officer.
Voters currently residing in Jharkhand but registered in another state can also use Form 8, along with the required documents, to transfer their registration to Jharkhand.
Kumar said the SIR exercise aims to ensure that no eligible citizen is excluded and no ineligible person is included in the electoral roll. He urged voters, political parties, Booth Level Agents, BLOs and election officials to assist eligible citizens in completing the enrolment process.
