To make it sure that that every eligible person gets enrolled in the voters’ list, the Election Commission will be starting call centres soon in every district to address the complaints registered with it.

The State administration, on the other hand, has also invited Booth level Volunteers (BlV) in the form of NGOs and private organisations who want to help the Government in updating the electoral rolls of the State as well as spread awareness to vote.

“One can register his name and address along with the date and time on which he will be available at his home and get his work done related to the electoral roll by just paying Rs 50 only,” said Deputy Chief Electoral Officer Abhay Kumar Rao.

For wooing the young voters of the State, the Election Commission has also set up registration camps at the schools, colleges and universities appointing coordinators or ambassadors who will ensure that each and every student of the institution gets registered in the electoral rolls. The coordinators or ambassadors have been appointed from within the institutions that will coordinate the whole process.

According to Rao, registration camps will also be set up at some of the gathering points of youths during festival seasons like Karma, Holi and Dussehra.

“Without losing any opportunity to include more and more youths in the electoral roll, registration camps are being set up at some of the specific focus points at the points of gatherings during Holi, Dussehra, Karma and other festivals,” said Rao.

“Facility of on-line registration is also there for the tech-savvy youths of the State who can register their names in the electoral rolls through internet, other formalities will be completed later,” he added.

For ensuring that the new groups of the first timers do not get untouched, the EC has approached the cadets of National Cadet Corps (NCC) where every cadet will fill up the form of at least five applicants after finding them from their localities.

Similarly, registration camps will also be set up at the other hot spots like PDS shops and locals haats in the remote areas where people generally gather in the remote areas, said Rao.

“We have also initiated a special drive to aware the voters to get enrolled in the electoral rolls, cast their votes on time and cast their without any pressure,” said Rao.

The Election Commission, in order to woo remote and tribal population of the State, has put up hoardings and posters in regional languages like Santhali, Mundari, Nagpuri along with Hindi and English.

Similarly, the State administration in order to make the electoral roll updated, has for the first time initiated a special drive inviting requests from the NGOs and private organisations to volunteer for the job. “We will appoint BlVs who will be helping us in updating the electoral rolls for us. ‘Art of living’ has approached to help us in our effort,” said Ranchi SDO Amit Kumar.

“Instead of starting in October, we started in the September to avoid the festive seasons in the schools in colleges which has definitely started giving good results,” added the SDO.
