Early Monsoon predicted in State amid favourable conditions

The onset of the southwest monsoon in Jharkhand this year could well be the earliest since 2003 as per the current prevailing weather conditions, weather officials said.

According to the Meteorological Centre, Ranchi, the normal date for the onset of monsoon over Kerala is June 1- which marks the beginning of the four month long monsoon season over the country. The southwest monsoon has set in over Kerala on May 24, 2025 and is 8 days ahead of its normal date. This is earliest date of monsoon onset over the southern state after 2009 when it had arrived on May 23.

“With the rains arriving in Kerala early this year, there are chances of it reaching Jharkhand before time as well. It normally takes 10 to 12 for the monsoon to reach Jharkhand after its onset over Kerala and if the weather conditions are normal it is likely to reach here by June 3 to June 5. If the conditions are more favourable, it could arrive as early as the starting of June itself,” said MET Centre Director, Abhishek Anand.

The official further added that monsoon had last arrived early in Jharkhand on June 6, 2003.

As per the information shared by the MET Centre, Ranchi, widespread rainfall of light to moderate category is being predicted for June 25 while on June 26 and June 27 many places in Jharkhand may witness light to moderate rain. From June 28 to June 30, widespread rain across the State is again on the cards.

The weathermen have also issued a yellow alert from June 25 to June 30 signifying thunderstorm, lighting and gusty winds with a speed of up to 40 to 50 km per hour for many places in Jharkhand.

As per the bulletin released by the MET Centre, Ranchi on Saturday evening, in the last 24 hours, the maximum amount of rainfall was recorded in Daltonganj at 5.5 mm. Bokaro district recorded the highest temperature at 35.9 degree Celsius.

The State capital witnessed a maximum temperature of 33.8 degree Celsius which is 3.4 degrees below normal. Jamshedpur and Chaibasa were at 33.8 and 35.8 degrees Celsius which is 6.3 and 2.6 degrees below normal respectively. Bokaro was recorded 7.7 degrees below normal at 33.5 degree Celsius.
