An air of festivity has created room for women entrepreneurship in the State capital. Women of the city are utilizing festivals like Durga Puja and different melas like Bangla Mela, Anand mela etc as a stage, where they can showcase their creative talents and earn some money.

Making of Chowmein, Snacks and other food items are becoming a cottage industry as the process of making such food items has become simpler and machines for making such food items are available at a cheaper cost.

“The wholesale business of Chowmein has got divided as there are many women who have set up the machine in their houses and are supplying the Chowmein from their house itself,” said Sambhu Saw, a whole seller of Chowmein at Upper Bazaar, Ranchi

In festive season demand of such food items increase in the city as food has also become a kind of culture among the people of the city and when you can get the facility of home delivery than, why notIJ

“The demand for snacks and sweets increases during the festive season. As most of the people prefer vegetarian food in the festivals so they demand such food items from us,” said Asha Biyani, who runs her own cookery classes at home and make different snacks too.

“I have been conducting cookery classes for the last 13 years and have evolved my food business according to the demand of the people,” she added.

The women running these small scale industries are not only making themselves independent but are providing employment to other woman’s too helping them to stand on their own feet.

“I have been running this business for the last three years and at the present time there are ten other women working under me. The demand of snacks for eg Khandwi, samosa etc increase during the puja,” said Anima Sharma an entrepreneur running her business from her house at Kanke Road.

“The contribution of women is helpful for the society but they are not provided the opportunity to showcase their talent and the ones that are working to make a mark of their own are not being recognized,” said Deepak Maroo a member of Jharkhand Small Industry Association (JSIA).

“Any such small scale industry operated by women is welcomed by JSIA and will be promoted by our association,” he added

More and more women who are willing to stand on their own are now moving towards entrepreneurship following the example of women mentioned above. Festivals like Durga Puja can be seen as the appropriate market for the woman’s seeking for an opportunity.
