Dumka district goes online to ensure better matriculation results

Published on:

In a bid to ensure that all the students appearing for matriculation examination in the district are well versed with the syllabus, the Dumka district administration has come up with a unique concept, ‘Conquest 2019’.

Under this programme, a team of best teachers of every subject taught in class 10 in government schools of the district has been formed by the administration, which is preparing notes and making educational videos for the students.

Deputy development commissioner of Dumka, Varun Ranjan said, “This year 11,000 children from 150 government schools of the district will be appearing in matriculation examination. To ensure that they perform well in the examination, these steps have been taken.”

He added, “Another major reason for starting  this programme was that as a result of shortage of teachers in many schools, the syllabus has not been completed. These notes and videos will help students in such schools complete the syllabus timely.”

As many as 30 best teachers have been selected, around five for each of the six subjects, who have prepared notes and are presently working on preparing videos. The hard copy of the notes has already been provided to every school and the soft copies have been uploaded on a group created on one of the messaging apps on phone.

Ranjan said, “The group has one teacher and at least one or more students from every school. They can download the notes and pass it among themselves. Also, the students ask their doubts on the group which can be cleared by the teachers immediately.”

This apart the educational videos being made by the teachers is also being shared on the group and with every school. The videos are being showcased in classroom using computer or television. Also, a youtube channel, with the name conquest 2019, has also been launched by the administration.

“The youtube channel will help not just the children of Dumka but children across the state appearing in matriculation examination being conducted by Jharkhand Academic council. Around 150 to 200 videos will be made covering all the topics of every subject,” Ranjan said.

Appreciating the efforts of the district administration, Kashi Nath Mahato, a mathematics teacher who is leading the team of teachers said, “This is a very good initiative and should be practiced across the state. It does not just help us develop a better teacher-pupil relationship but also gives us the opportunity to share knowledge outside classrooms.”

Similarly, Amit Murmu, a student of government school who is to appear in class 10 examination this year said that this project has helped him understand his syllabus better. “I was always hesitant to approach a teacher directly but now with the notes and videos I can understand a topic very easily” he said.

This apart, many other steps are being taken by the administration for result improvement this year, which includes conducting part-wise mock test for the syllabus and organizing a counseling session for the students appearing this year by the toppers of 2018.
