The newly constituted Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee University (DSPMU) is all set to conduct the much awaited first Student Union Election on December 4. The university is on its last leg of preparations as the polling process will begin from the last week of November.
DSPMU Vice-Chancellor (VC), Professor Satya Narayan Munda released the election schedule during a press meet organised on the university campus here on Saturday. “The student union poll for electing the office-bearers will be conducted through ‘Direct Method’ following the Lyngdoh Committee recommendations. The election will be held for five posts – President, Vice-President, General Secretary, Joint Secretary cum Treasurer and Deputy Secretary,” said DSPMU VC, Satya Narayan Munda.
As per the election schedule, electoral roll compiling the details of the students will be published on November 20 at 4 PM. The date of filling objections (If any) can be done on November 22 from 10:30 AM to 4 PM. Inclusion, exclusion, correction (If any) in the electoral roll will be done at the respective university from 10:30 AM to 4 PM on November 24. The Final Electoral Roll will be published on the same day i.e.. November 24.
“The date of distribution of nomination papers on payment of Rs. 100 for each post will be done on two consecutive days – November 24 and 25. The university do not charge any amount from the students as the election fee during the admission process, hence, the students will have to pay the pending amount for it now,” said the DSPMU VC.
Further, the election schedule read, “Submission of finally compiled electoral roll to the office of Dean Students Welfare (DSW) – DSPMU must be completed on November 24. Date of filling the nominations will begin from 10:30 AM to 4 PM at university’s Jacob Hall on November 26. Scrutiny of nominations will be done on the subsequent day -- November 27 from 10:30 AM to 4 PM at Jacob Hall. The process of withdrawal of nomination starts from 10:30 AM onwards and will continue till 2:00 PM on November 28.”
The university officials opined that the list of contestants will be published at 4 PM on November 28. “The election campaign will commence from November 29 after 4 PM while the promotional activities will end on December 3 at 4 PM. On December 4, the electors will cast their votes from 10:30 AM to 4 PM at the specified polling booths. Activities like counting of votes, declaration of results including certificate distribution will be done on the premises of DSPMU from 10:30 AM onwards on December 5,” the DSPMU VC further added.
The VC asserted that the submission, intimation of complete list of elected members to the office of DSW will be over on December 6. “Also, on December 6, the oath ceremony programme of the selected office-bearers for the respective posts will be organised from 2 PM onwards at Open Air Theatre, DSPMU,” he stated.
