The East Singhbhum district administration has decided to launch crackdown against fake registration number users from April. The action is being taken following complains by the state food and civil supplies minister Saryu Roy with the transport secretary Ratan Kumar and East Singhbhum deputy commissioner Amitabh Kaushal about plying of large number of auto rickshaws with fake registration numbers.
“We are concern about complaints of use of fake number plates and will be conducting a drive in the first week of April in city against use of fake registration numbers by commercial vehicles. The concerned department officials have been directed in this connection and strict action will be taken as per law against those found indulging in such malpractices,” said East Singhbhum deputy commissioner.
Many autorickshaws plying on the city’s busy thoroughfares could be seen carrying passengers more than the permitted capacity. In several instances, the number of passengers seated inside the three-wheelers exceeds eight. There are around 25,000 autos which are plying on various routes in city roads carrying more than 2 lakhs commuters each day.
East Singhbhum district transport officer Sanjay Kujur confirmed of the crackdown from April onward.
“ Yes we have decided to launch drive jointly with district traffic police at major roads of the city. The minister has lodged a complaint we will carry out the drive,” said Sanjay Kujur.
He said that action will be taken under IPC section 420 (forgery) and offenders would be liable to be sentenced to prison up to seven years.
