In a surprising twist to the family suicide case, Dr Sukanto Sarkar on Wednesday claimed that he did not kill anyone in his family and said that the attempt to end their lives was consensual and every adult in the family was involved in injecting the anesthetic to each other’s body. Five persons of the doctor family were found dead in a rented flat of Riviresa Apartment at Kokar under Sadar Police Station in Ranchi on Sunday, while the doctor himself was found bleeding profusely, apparently due to self stabbing.
“Although the doctor was not in a condition to speak properly, he has claimed that everything was done in the family with consensus and they injected the anesthetic compose to each other’s body,” said Sadar DSP Vikas Chandra Srivastava. On the question of why he chose to stab rather than injecting himself, he said that he completely confused whether to end his life or not, added the DSP.
Those who were found dead have been identified as wife Anjana Sarkar, son Sameer Sakar, Sameer’s daughter Sunita Sarkar, wife of his nephew Momita Sarkar and Momita’s daughter Samita Sarkar.
According to the doctor, Sumita was injected upon by her mother Momita while Sameer injected her daughter Sunita. later Sameer injected Momita and Sushanto’s wife Anjana injected Sameer and herself. When Doctor got confirmed that all of them were dead he made and attempt to kill him, said the DSP. The whole exercise was done between 10-11 pm on Saturday, said the police.
Condition of the doctor, who was admitted here at Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) in Ranchi, was said to be stable on Wednesday.
The doctor further claimed that the family was under utter depression due to regular threats given by his daughter in law Madhumita Sarkar.
“The doctor said that Madhumita often used to threaten that she will lodge a complaint under section 498 against them and send the whole family to jail,” said the DSP. Moreover, the family wanted to keep her daughter Sunita Sarkar with them but they knew that ultimately due to her tender age, she will be given custody of her mother by the court, he added.
The family was also under stress due to allegations of illicit relation made by Madhumita between her husband Sameer and sister Momita. The police however, are still waiting for the postmortem report which may reveal some more facts regarding death of five persons of the same family.
Meanwhile Madhumita Sarkar, who has been booked for abetment of suicide by Ranchi police in the suicidal deaths of five of her family members, reportedly tried to lodge a complaint against her father-in-law Shushanto Sarkar on Tuesday, for “killing” her husband, daughter and other family members on Tuesday. Noida police however, refused to lodge an FIR saying that the incident happened in Ranchi.
