Dr Kashyap presents 4 papers at ASCRS

Renowned ophthalmologist of Jharkhand Dr Bharti Kashyap participated in the annual session of the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery (ASCRS) held from May 3 to May 7 in San Diego, USA.  She was the only doctor from across the world who got an opportunity to present four scientific research papers on complex subjects of ophthalmic medicine.

While sharing the findings of her research, Kashyap said that to avoid the use of glasses after cataract surgery for near and mid vision work, various types of multifocal, trifocal and extended depth of focus intraocular lenses can be used. The type of multifocal, trifocal and extended depth of intraocular lenses can be used by Indians of average height depending on their requirements.

In her research, she also found that the speed of reading a book with multifocal intraocular lenses is the best. This study of speed was done on an I- pad by the MNREAD APP and found that the average height is very beneficial for the Indians who do more writing work but if the height is above average then extended deficit of vision intraocular lens proves to be better because the reading distance is high.

However, one possible drawback in these lenses is that the person might feel a halo around the light while driving in the night which usually gets reduced over time.

For an Indian of average height trifocal intraocular lens is more suitable while working on the computer as they have short hands and work at a distance of 60 cm. To work on the computer, to read the labels of things in the shop, the trifocal intraocular lens gives them good results.

For those who read a lot or are involved in stitching and embroidery work, multifocal intraocular lenses are proven to be good for people of the average height.

If individuals of average height have cylinder power with cataract, then trifocal toric or multifocal toric lenses are more suitable.

If Indians with above average height have cataract and cylinder power then extended depth of focus lens toric lens is better suited.
