The 80th Annual Convention of the All India Ophthalmological Society (AIOS) was organized from 2nd June to 5th June 2022 at Geo World Centre, Mumbai. As many as 6000 ophthalmologists from all over the country participated in the conference, where renowned ophthalmologist Dr. BP Kashyap and a team of ophthalmologists from Jharkhand provided training on electrophysiology of eyes to eye specialists from all over the country.
Dr. Bibhuti Bhushan presented the topic of electrophysiology, Dr. Rahul Prasad discussed the electrodes of the machine, Dr. B. P. Kashyap explained the full field and multifocal electroretinogram and Dr. Bharti Kashyap explained in detail electrooculogram to the eye doctors, Dr. Vibhuti Kashyap, Ranchi's renowned retina specialist, gave presentation on Pattern electroretinogram and Dr. Nidhi Gadkar Kashyap presented on the topic of Visual Evoked Potential.
The electrophysiology examination of the eyes tells the function of the retina and nerves of the eye. We take photos of the inner screen of the eyes from the rest of the old tests, but all these do not tell the function of the eyes. With this test, which surface of your screen is diseased, it becomes known. If there is a disease of the eye curtain or vein and everything inside the eyes is looking normal, then in such a situation this test helps a lot.
This is a very informative test in case the central visual field is defective or the eye is very bright due to light, the light is decreasing and everything inside the eye is looking normal.
Unlike a heart ECG, no dye is used in this test. In patients who are not very safe to give dye in the vein due to other diseases of the body such as kidney, heart disease, diabetes, blood pressure, this test proves to be very beneficial in such patients.
Electrophysiology examination reveals diseases of different surfaces of the retina, as well as whether this disease is congenital or occurred after birth. This test is very effective in the identification of congenital diseases of the eyes. Sometimes small children whose eyes are not fixed, they move continuously, it tells which congenital disease of the eyes of the children. Sometimes a child's congenital ailment can be detected by the examination of the eyes of the parents.
Electrophysiology examination also shows how much benefit is being done in the diagnosis and treatment of many congenital diseases of the eye retina and diseases of the nerves of the eyes. It helps a lot in the diagnosis of inflammatory disease of the blood vessels of the eye, this test helps to identify wherever there is a disturbance in the path of light from the retina to the brain.
Electrophysiology test facility is available only in Kashyap Memorial Eye Hospital in Jharkhand-Bihar and this facility has been available for the last four years.
