Doctor's big heart saves teen life

A normal family feud, flee from home and a fatal train accident! The incidents taken place in small span of time cost a teenage boy his leg and pushed him on the verge of death before being pulled off by Government doctors.

Shahil Kapor of Jugsalai near Jamshedpur aged around 16 reportedly fled for Delhi when his auto driver father scolded him for something. But his journey met an unfortunate end when the train he was boarding at reached somewhere near Daltonganj on Friday afternoon.

“He was brought to us by RPF personnel in ultimate shock condition, with felling pulses and in coma. His leg was cut by the train and had caught with acute septicemia. Besides that his elbow and head were injured badly. In that emergency situation when he needed blood, we had no option but to donate ours. Dr Sushil who was on duty as surgeon donated his own blood to save the boy without caring much about police formalities,” said Dr Praveen Siddharth, an orthopedic surgeon at Sadar Hospital, Daltonganj.

Since the injured was still in unconscious state the doctors had another tedious task at hand that was to locate his family besides arranging drugs and whole lot of antibiotics for Shahil.

“We used the media and speared the information as much as possible but of no help. Finally on Sunday, the patient responded, though unclearly, about his place. We perceived that he is murmuring Jugsalai, his name as ‘Saheed Kapor’ and his father as auto driver,” said Dr Siddharth who along with his team had to perform surgery to amputee his left leg so that septic can be prevented from spreading further.

The Pioneer on getting the information and whatever little lead at hand about his whereabouts, contacted Jugsalai police station to know whether the police had got any complaint about any missing person in last 24 hours. Officer in-charge laxman Prasad recalling a complaint made on Sunday morning immediately responded and contacted the person who happens to be the father of the ill-fated boy.

“He had come to us lodging a complaint. He said that a minor heated exchange had taken place with Shahil and boy in anger left for Delhi,” said the officer and later passed on the information to the family that soon rushed to Daltonganj.

“It seems a suicide attempt was made by him. He has started talking now and is out of danger. But it is unfortunate that one of his legs has been lost,” said the doctor and at the same time added that a section of society needed to mend its behavior and general perception about doctors that often ends up in thrashing and manhandling by aggrieved family members.
