The doctors and para medical staff that attended the Coronavirus patient who died on Wednesday have tested negative for COVID-19.

A 72-year-old man died due to COVID-19 infection at Bokaro General Hospital (BGH) during the course of treatment.  He was a resident of Sadam village under Gomia block of the district. The doctor who treated the patient suffering from Coronavirus infection at BGH reported negative, informed AK Pathak Civil Surgeon Bokaro.

The deceased was admitted in the ICU at BGH after having experiencing shortness of breath on 4 April. Seeing his symptoms, he was suspected to be positive of Coronavirus infection. Later, a sample was sent to Ranchi for investigation which report came on Wednesday night, he said.

Soon after getting the deceased man’s report, the doctors and hospital management feared a possible spread of infection among doctors. As no one knew before starting treatment that the patient was corona positive, he came in contact with several medical staff and doctors.

Later, the blood sample of the doctor who attended the said patient was sent to Ranchi for examination on Thursday and the doctor's report was found to be negative, said Pathak adding “the report was released on Saturday late night.”

The first positive case of coronavirus infection, a woman of Telo village, was reported in the Bokaro district on 5 April. She hid the information that she along with five other family members have participated in the Jamaat congregation at Nizamuddin Markaz in Delhi. Later, on 8 April, her three family members (two woman's granddaughters and one is her brother-in-law) also tested positive. They are in isolation at BGH now, said Civil Surgeon.

“I personally appealed people to come forward and disclose that they attended Markaz or have any kind of physical contact or link with such persons who attended the religious gathering as soon as possible,” said CS.

Meanwhile, there has been no positive case of COVID-19 report till Saturday.

Now the administration is waiting for 113 reports, the reports will reveal the stage of the spread of Coronavirus infection in Bokaro. If there is an increase in the number of positive cases then the probability of community transmission will increase and if all the reports are found negative then it will be a matter of relief for the district administration, said a medical expert.
