Internet and modern means of communication proved a boon for a differently abled teenage girl as she was able to reunite with her parents after a gap of six months.
After making several attempts, the Child Welfare Committee (CWC) of Gumla with the help of Google on May 26 became successful in finding the native place of a mentally challenged girl who was residing at Nari Niketan, Gumla since December 2016.
Notably, Chameli Khatoon when brought to CWC, Gumla in March 2017 was suffering from mental disorder and was unable to recall any event that could help the committee members in finding the location or give any clue about her native place.
“Khatoon was found by Gumla police at Sisai block on December 15 last year in disturbed condition and was handed over to Nari Niketan, a centre for women and girls in distress. For a long period, Khatoon stayed at Nari Niketan, Gumla. For long she was unable to recall anything. After undergoing medical treatment for few months, the girl condition later on became quite stable,” said, CWC Gumla Head, Shambhu Singh.
However, during her recovery period, Khatoon often used to mumble a name called Moresher, stated the CWC Gumla Head. “Earlier, the members never used to take that seriously but when this girl repeatedly started muttering the same name, the members started searching for this specific location. Few days back with the help of Google, we were successful in finding the exact location,” added Singh.
The efforts of CWC Gumla gave productive result as the members were not just able to find the specific district from where Khatoon hails from but were also successful in getting the contact details of the respective police station.
“After much research, it was found that the girl is from Birbhum district located in West Bengal. With the cooperation of Moresher police station in-charge, we were able to search here parents as well,” Singh further added.
Parents too have clarified that their daughter, Chameli Khatoon was suffering from some mental ailment when she left home in December 2016. In spite of making several attempts, they were not able to find their daughter and had lost all hopes.
After verifying the documents and seeking the evidences collected from police, the girl will be soon handed over to her parents.
