There is good news for the sports talents of Jharkhand. The State Art, Culture, Sports and Youth Affairs department is working on war footing initiate the appointment of District Sports Officer (DSO).
“We have recently finalised the terms and conditions required for the appointment of the 24 vacant posts of DSO with the approval of Chief Secretary R S Sharma. Now our secretary is working on further appointments to be sent soon to the Jharkhand Public Service Commission for notification of the recruitment of these posts,” said Art, Culture, Sports and Youth Affairs department Director Ashok Kumar.
DSO is the immediate executive of the District Sports Office which conducts various sports and youth oriented schemes and programmes of the State Government. School games and pykka games of each district are supervised by the DSO.
It is to be noted except Ranchi, none of the other districts of Jharkhand have DSO. Infact, for more than two decades most of the districts do not have DSO.
Ranchi DSO Dalsingar Ram conceded that presently, only eight or nine DSO posts are sanctioned. In four or five districts it is Deputy Superintendent, Superintendent or Deputy Director. In Dhanbad there is a post for DSO. No such posts are there in Bokaro and Saraikela. In Giridih and Chaibasa it is mentioned as District Sports Deputy Superintendent.
