District cops crack down on unauthorised parking

Concerned over the rising cases of road mishaps in city and to ensure free flow of traffic on roads in the city, East Singhbhum district traffic police have decided to act tough on vehicle owners parking on unauthorised area. The idea is to keep a check on mishap points to reduce traffic congestion and accidents in city.

The department has decided to use hydraulic police crane which is stationed at the police control room in Sakchi for acting against the vehicles parked on prohibited areas. The move comes after people complained of snail pace of movement of vehicles on roads as vehicles are parked on both sides of the roads making them narrower.

Deputy superintendent of police (traffic) Rakesh Mohan Sinha said that all the five traffic police stations in the city at Bistupur, Sakchi, Mango, Golmuri and Jugsalai have been instructed for towing away the vehicles who park their vehicles regularly on roads.

“People park their vehicles haphazardly on roads due to the presence of commercial establishments, eateries and other shops. This hampers the flow of traffic at any point of time. Directive has been issued if vehicle owners continue to park their vehicles regularly on roads especially near joints which have witnessed mishaps on several occasions the traffic inspectors has been authorized to carry away the vehicles using the crane,” said the DSP.

The vehicles would be kept at the nearest police stations of the spot of violation and would be released after levying a fine of Rs 500 for parking violation and an additional Rs 500 as charge for expense incurred on crane.

“We want to educate people to park their vehicles in the allotted spot. But seeing the increasing number of mishaps we are left with no alternative to start towing away of vehicles on a regular basis,” said the traffic DSP.

Due to lack of multi-level parking or adequate parking space in the city, narrow roads were not allowed for parking. Additional traffic personnel are being posted to ensure that traffic violators and unauthorised parking is curbed.

The police have registered more than two hundred cases last month for unauthorised parking. Acting on the directive, on Monday Jugsalai traffic police towed away in all four two-wheelers and warned others that if vehicles are found parked on roads then they would also meet similar fate.
