Disaster mgmt dept in a shambles in Palamu

Published on:

The authorities responsible for disaster management in Palamu district seem to be in deep slumber forcing people in distress to remain neglected in the hours of need. Two electricity poles got uprooted due to strong winds that lashed Daltonganj late on Monday afternoon at NawaToli near Chitragupt Mandir.

And, despite several calls made to civil officials and the electricity department officials, the 11,000 volt overhead wire hanging in a perilous condition was disconnected in the affected area after more than two hours of the uprooting of the electricity poles.

A resident of the area Asghar Ansari a lawyer by profession said it was a sheer chance that no children were playing around when these two electricity poles fell on the ground as it is summer time and schools are  closed.  This lawyer said the disconnection of 11,000 volt wire was done also too late.

According to executive engineer of the Daltonganj electricity department A K Paswan one electric pole fell on an auto rickshaw near Daltonganj police line where eight passengers were in who had a miraculous escape’

The strong wind that was only 40 KMPH caused extensive damages as in Chainpur this strong wind ripped apart a roof of asbestos and the flying asbestos sheet hurt a passerby in his head very grievously.

Sources said there was no management in the aftermath of this nature’s fury. Huge tree remained lying on road near Chitragupt Mandir. Mangled electricity wires are still scattered on the road.  Water supply in the town too has been affected.

While loud talks are done academically over disaster management, on Monday the town Daltonganj saw a simple fury of nature and there was no rescue or relief by way of clearing of road of fallen trees, fallen electricity wires stop gap arrangement of power supply in the affected area.

The administration did not put any JCB machine to

either remove the fallen tree or the electric pole.
