As the State capital revels in the festivities of Ramnavmi, Ranchi police will keep an eye on the real and cyber world using digital means to make sure no unpleasantness from either source disrupts the celebrations on Friday.
Identifying strategic points in the city, police have had Close Circuit Television cameras installed to continuously monitor these locations when the Ramnavmi procession crosses them on Thursday night and Friday evening.
“We have marked 22 points in the city which will be watched by a total of 180 CCTV cameras so that we can identify wrongdoers and hooligans promptly. The feeds from these cameras will be monitored continuously at the City Control Room,” said Superintendent of Police (City) Kishore Kaushal.
Apart from this, police will also keep continuous watch on the channels of social media to identify rumours being circulated there and check them from creating any untowardly incident. “Our cyber cell will continuously monitor the social media websites and applications to restrain activities from rumourmongers,” added the City SP.
Police forces have done everything in their power to keep any rumour from disrupting peace during Ramnavmi. The police and administrative officials looking after the arrangements of Ramnavmi have been instructed to conduct raids and detain rumourmongers.
“We have used newspapers and news channels to spread the message to people to pay no heed to rumours nor propagate any. Hoardings have been put up at major roundabout and along streets enlisting measures people should follow. Ranchi SSP and I have been appealing the denizens of Ranchi through FM radio channels to celebrate Ramnavmi peacefully,” said Kaushal.
Forces have been deployed in plenty across the city to watch the procession for any signs of trouble and repress them quickly. Several companies of police and para-military forces have been stationed across the city as security detail during Ramnavmi.
“Apart from personnel of district police force, additional forces from police headquarters will also be deployed in Ranchi on the occasion of Ramnavmi. Plainclothes will also be stationed to watch the crow for anti-social elements. Female constables will also be deployed for areas where more crowds are expected,” stated Kaushal.
Ranchi police have also coordinated with the volunteers from akharas to use their help in maintaining law and order during the processions. The by-lanes will be barricaded at several places due to security reasons. 31 drop gates will also be installed to strategically regulate traffic flow.
