DIG demands faster disposal of cases in Hazaribagh

Since December 16, when the Delhi gang-rapevictim died, the entire country stood with the victim’s family and demanded justice. New laws have been framed by the Parliament but such incidents keep growing.

Hazaribagh Police too has rolled up its sleeves to control the situation. All senior officials have started scrutinising files because Hazaribagh has been witness to increasing crimes against women in the past four months.

From December 16, 2012 to April 30, 2013, 37 brutal cases have been registered, which is more than double the number registered in Ranchi. DIG Suman Gupta has taken it seriously and after holding a meeting with all SPs, she directed speedy disposal of cases of rape and atrocities against women. Fifty-two cases of rape are pending in the range because the investigating officer has yet not submitted his report. Of these, the maximum number are in Giridih district. In second place is Hazaribagh. The minimum number of rape cases are pending in Koderma and Chatra.

Statistics show that in Giridih, 25 cases are pending, 12 in Hazaribagh and 11 in  Ramgarh. Some have been pending for two years and more. SPs  have now told investigating officers to submit reports as soon as possible so victims can get faster justice.

Such cases are suppressed mercilessly in rural areas and even in the town sometimes due to social fear. The increase in the number of cases coming to police stations is a sign that now people are not going to tolerate anymore.
