DGP's inspection throws all police stations in action

Surprise checks of police stations by Director General of Police (DGP) Rajiv Kumar has offered a lesson or two to police officials as most of them are alert in terms of keeping station diary up-to-date and avoid embarrassment due to supposed negligence of duty.  Penal actions taken by the DGP has also made district police officials to pull up their socks and give their best.

The DGP had made late night surprise visits on Tuesday to check functioning of police stations in Ranchi and in the process reportedly unearthed the lackadaisical approach of police officials. Miffed at improper function the DGP had reportedly suspended in-charge of lower Bazaar police station and issued show cause notices to officer in-charge of police stations for failing to update station diary. “We are alert and very much on the job. Crime control is our duty and we are prompt in discharging our duty. There is no specific instruction to us but we have increased patrolling in the next 24 hours and it will continue,” said in-charge of lalpur police station, Shailesh Kumar.

The DGP also reprimanded police officials for taking the job of policing lightly, checked services like dial-100 and instructed officials to plug the loopholes in the policing system.  Kumar also emphasized on police’s humane face to make the constabulary people friendly. The visit came in the wake of growing cases of crime such as murder, loot and theft that has tarnished the image of city police. Visit by the top cop of the State put district police officials on its toes as they burned midnight oil to update station diaries to evade punishment for delinquency of duty. Senior police officials devoted time in making strategies to eliminate the deficiencies pointed out by the DGP and they chose not to interact with media.

Meanwhile, securities has been beefed up on the eve of New Year and for another couple of hours as Ranchiites plan to celebrate year 2015 at parks, hotels and tourist spots. As many as 320 police personnel will be on guard to keep wicked elements at bay and prevent celebrations at tourist spots taking ugly turns.
