DGP Apke Dwar: Trade body urges top cop to create fear of law

Deeply perturbed with the increasing incidents of crime in the State, members of Federation of Jharkhand Chamber of Commerce and Industries (FJCCI) have urged the DGP to take necessary steps for creating a fear psychosis among the miscreants. During ‘DGP Apke Dwar’ programme on Wednesday, the DGP was interacting with businessmen from across the State through video conferencing. They also stressed on a need to develop a sense of trust between police and businessmen, which could not be done in the last 14 years.

“No breakthrough has been achieved so far in the incidents of crime, which recently took place in the capital city, despite an assurance given by the police of arresting the criminals within 48 hours,” said FJCCI President Ratan Modi. People all over the State are really scared of the continuous incidents of crime taking place, especially in Ranchi, added Modi.

According to Modi, regular meetings between police and businessmen should be conducted at the district level so that they can put their problems freely before the police. FJCCI members, during the meeting, also raised the issue of bridging the gap between police and public. “Police-mitra programme conducted earlier by the police, where people were given a chance to enter into direct dialogue with the senior police officials should be started again to bring them closer to each other,” said FJCCI General Secretary Pawan Sharma. In the meantime, there is also a need to create a sense of fear of police, which is still lacking in the State, said Sharma.

Sharma, while talking to the mediapersons, warned that if the State police was not able to ensure safety to the businessmen, they will be forced to come out on streets to register their protest. Sharma further added that despite giving an assurance of arresting the culprits responsible for the incident of loots in petrol pumps within 48 hours, nothing has been done in this regard.

Businessmen from each of the districts raised the issue of intensifying patrolling by Tiger Mobiles through motorcycles to ensure presence of police everywhere in the state. DGP Rajiv Kumar directed the senior police officials to introduce separate training programme for the policemen involved in Tiger mobile duty. “A committee has been formed to look into both short and long term problems raised by the people from time to time which, is to be followed by the district police,” the DGP added.

Referring to the demand of introducing online FIR for those who do not want to go to the police stations, Ranchi SSP said that anyone can lodge their complaints at the official e-mail of SSP, which is generally forwarded to the concerned police stations and is converted into a formal complaint.

A businessman from Khunti however, questioned the state police for publicising Operation Karo-II being conducted in the district raising an alarm for the rebels enabling them to leave the area during the operation. As soon as the operation gets discontinued, their activities will be started again, he added.   Another person from Gumla complained that the situation of law and order has gone to such an extent that the businessmen, instead of going to the police prefer to manage the caller, in case an extortion call is received by them.
