Devoted trio cremate 80 unclaimed bodies in '13

Md Khalid, Tapas Chakraborty and Vibhu Daa, a devoted trio of Hazaribagh, who runs Murda Kalyan Samiti, spent another year of their unique service to the society.

This year the trio and their associates cremated 80 unidentified bodies given to them by different police stations of Hazaribagh, Ramgarh, Chatra and Koderma districts at Hazaribagh. Since more than last one decade the trio is serving the society with the help of some humanity loving denizens of Hazaribagh. Now even at the capital city Ranchi people know them because of their work. In 2012, they cremated more than 250 unidentified and unclaimed bodies kept in RIMS morgue since years. In 2013 they again went there and cremated about 150 such bodies.

The figures available in their diary says that in comparison to 2012 when they have done the last rituals of 62 bodies here at Hazaribagh this year the number has gone up to 80. Most of the bodies which they received this year came from Ramgarh district and Barkakana Railway Police Station area. Md Khalid said that since last 2-3 years we are feeling that Hazaribagh and Ramgarh districts have developed as the safe areas to hide the bodies. In Hazaribagh many bodies have been found in the areas along NH-2 which we have cremated as unclaimed were identified by the relatives after months and it was found that they have been murdered elsewhere and the culprits have thrown their bodies in these areas.

Tapas Chakraborty and Vibhu Daa informed that this year the police handed department handed over us 65 bodies of male, 11 of female and four of kids. Among these two were AIDS patients who died at Sadar Hospital, Hazaribagh, and no one of their families came forward for their last rituals. Similar situation arose when the family members refused to take the bodies of two leprosy patients from Sadar Hospital.

This year the Murda Kalyan Samiti has cremated two bodies of young women between the age group of 18-22 years. As per their medical reports the miscreants have first raped them and then killed them. Since they are yet unidentified so police is also helpless in tracing the culprits. Md Khalid said, “Before cremation we keep the bodies for six days and then after taking photographs we perform their last rituals. Though money is needed for it but it never became a problem for us because the people of Hazaribagh are always ready to contribute and help us fulfill our vow to humanity.”
