The Chief Minister, Raghubar Das, on Thursday announced that the State Government will constitute a Jamshedpur Regional Development Authority to provide better civic services and monitor town planning.

Speaking during the inauguration of Ramadhir Bagan Park near Telco, Das said, "The Government is seriously thinking of constituting a Jamshedpur Regional Development Authority and it will be placed before the State Cabinet for necessary sanction soon. The idea is to provide planned and uniform civic amenities and town planning for the city and its outskirts that will be known as Greater Jamshedpur," said Das.

After the constitution of Greater Jamshedpur the basic amenities like roads, drains, water, power, transport, health, education, playground, theatres, and stadiums will be provided by the authority in the city and the nearby areas.

Reiterating the Government's commitment to provide amenities, the Chief Minister also said that a memorandum of understanding (MoU) has already been signed earlier this month between the State Government and Tata Steel for supply of water in non-Tata Steel lease areas. Residents living outside Tata Steel command areas in the city will also get the benefit of quality water soon, he noted.

"As per the agreement, the Government will bear 40 per cent of the cost while Tata Steel will be bearing 60 per cent of the cost (laying of pipes and providing connections) for supply of water in these areas. The survey work in these areas (non-Tata Steel lease areas) will be completed by October 2 this year and thereafter Tata Steel subsidiary Jusco and the Government will sit together to finalise the rates for water and connection charge and later distribution connection will be provided in a phased manner," the Chief Minister said.

Das today inaugurated and launched five environmental projects - Ramadhin Bagan Park, Gayatri Nagar Park, Sitaramdera Park, Zero liquid Discharge initiative and Ek Ped Ek Jeevan Campaign.

According to Jusco officials, Gayatri Nagar (area 6,500 sq m, costing Rs 13 lakh) and Ramadhin Bagan Park ( 2,500 sq m area, costing Rs 12 lakh) will be maintained by the Indian Steel and Wire Products (IS&WP) limited while the Sitaramdera Park (4,000 sq m area, Rs 25 lakh) will be maintained by Basti Vikas Samity.

The Sitaramdera Park has facilities like children's corner like playing equipments (swings), exercise equipments and cartoon paintings, a borewell with overhead tank facilities, steel scrap arts and garden lights.

Das also inaugurated zero liquid discharge initiative of Jusco by pressing a button at the Sitaramdera Park.

"It is our ambitious project and looking forward to make it a success. Jamshedpur will become the first city in the country to become zero liquid discharge. The project (Rs 56 lakh) at Kharkhai sewage treatment plant with a capacity to treat 10 million litres of sewage water per day will be used for horticulture as well as in plant and other purposes. Similar facility will be operational at Bara sewage treatment plant by July 2017 with a capacity of 30 million litres per day," said Jusco MD Ashish Mathur.

Das also flagged off 12 vans as part of Jusco 'Ek Ped Ek Jeevan Campaign' in which one lakh saplings will be planted in 200 days in the city with the help of social organizations and institutions. The vans will be distributing saplings of fruit bearing trees to different institutions for plantation at residential colonies.

Das also said that around three crore trees would be planted by the State Government this year as part of the green mission.
