Denizens to light candles on April 5

In his address to the nation on Friday morning, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has asked everyone to switch off all lights at home and illuminate their surroundings with diyas or candles for nine minutes at 9 pm on Sunday, April 5. After the Janta Curfew observed on March 22, Ranchiites have once again welcomed the PM’s call amid the rising fear of Cornoravirus.

People from all walks of life and across all age groups in the City are keen to support Modi and curb the spread of the deadly virus.

“I support the initiative of our Prime Minister in this fight against Coronavirus. I hope that it goes not just from the country but the world very soon so that we can resume our normal lifestyles. Just like everyone had participated by clapping or ringing bells last time, hopefully this time too they will light up their balconies with hopes of winning this battle. Go Corona Go!!” said Hridaan, a class VII student.

“We are with the PM in this battle and support him whole heartedly. We do plan to light up candles on Sunday and also meditate and pray for everyone’s well being. I have also asked my daughter who works for a multinational company in Bangalore to light up the same in her house as well. With Modi as our leader and guide, I am sure we are going to emerge as winners in this battle and that too very soon,” said a city based event planner Vandana.

Nilesh Agrawal, a city based industrialist feels that the way Modi is dealing with this pandemic is phenomenol. “Personally I don’t agree with Modi on a lot of things but now his way of handling this crisis is great. A lot of people are trying to make this whole thing communal but the PM not addressing those issues is very good. It is not a communal battle and at the end of the day this virus can affect anyone in the same way. The idea of lighting diyas shows we are all in this together and we are united during the outbreak of Coronavirus.”

“I am going to light diyas on my terrace and also put on the Om chant to make it more powerful. I feel by illuminating candles or diyas and also chanting, we will give more power to the sun. This in turn will make us and our immunity systems strong and less prone to any disease. According to the Hindi calendar it is also a very auspicious day for lighting diyas,” said senior citizen Chanda Bhasin.
