It is a bad news for the denizens of Hazaribagh, especially those who are dependent on water supply. From Monday, the PHED department is going to curtail the water supply as water level of Charwa Dam has went down below the red level. Executive engineer of department informed that from May 5-6 the denizens will get water supply only once in the morning. In Hazaribagh, Chadwa dam and lake are the two sources from where the water and sanitation department supplies water in the town areas.Water of Charwa Dam is supplied in most of the areas while lake water reaches to its adjoining areas outside.
At this time, there is ample water in lake but the level of water in Charwa Dam is declining day by day. As per PHED department, the water level of Charwa Dam has gone down to 14.5 feet. The sources of PHED department informed that the pipeline fitted in the dam is at 11 feet height so now we have only 3.5 feet water left which can be supplied without any extra effort. By curtailing supply the department hopes that they will be able to supply water in majority of town area up to June 15.
After that powerful pumps will be needed to lift water from the dam and to send it to filter plant. On Saturday evening, a meeting had taken place to discuss the alarming situation in the district board office which was presided over by chairman Braj Kishore Jaiswal. In this meeting, the executive engineer of PHED, Anirudh Kumar, informed about the crisis to the chairman and ward counselors of Hazaribagh Municipal Council.
He urged everyone to aware the people about this crisis so that misuse of water can be checked. He also informed that the government has now decided to handover the water supply work to the local bodies because PHED department is not able to collect revenue against this water supply service. As per new proposal now the municipal council will look into water supply and maintenance work and will collect revenue for it. Anjali Kumari, Chairman Hazaribagh Municipal Council, Anand Dev, vice chairman and ward counselors present in the meeting said that this proposal will be discussed in their board meeting then after they will be in a position to say anything on it. Meanwhile DC Sunil Kumar has said that district administration has taken the water crisis seriously. It is a problem of not only the town area but of villages also and we have instructed the concerned departments to repair the handpumps and other sources of water supply on war level so that people could get water near to their homes.
