Dhanteras, which marks the beginning of Diwali, is a time when people loosen their purse strings and go on a shopping spree. This time was no less than the previous years. However, rain played spoilsport and had its effect on the business. The daylong drizzle left the market chockablock.
Usually, it is the jewellers who cash in on the gold rush. However, this year the electronics goods dealers were seen making merry as products like LEDs, music systems and iPhones were in demand. Some even opted for cars and two wheelers. "A new trend has emerged where people are opting for electronic gadgets. The idea goes well with working professionals who wish to buy a items that will be useful in everyday life.
The electronic good sales have shot up this season. There are also some great festive offers," said Raja Singh, proprietor, National Electronics. Cars and bikes sale witnessed a decrease in sales figure between 30 during this Dhanteras as compared to last year. Pebco Motors, a leading car dealer in Jamshedpur has had 160 bookings of cars with Maruti Swift and Maruti Swift Dzire leading the pack as compared to over 200 last year.
“The sale has decreased this year as compared to last year and in shift from earlier practice people are opting for mid-segment products having better looks and innovative features rather than hatchbacks like Alto and Wagon-R. This year more than 60 per cent sale is of Swift and Swift Dzire,” said Amit Kumar Singh showroom manager, Pebco Motors Limited in Bistupur.
