Demonetisation has affected illegal funding of Maoists: Ahir

Published on:

Assuring Naxal infested States that all their requirements would be fulfilled by the Centre, Minister of State for Home Hansraj Gangaram Ahir on Friday said that demonetisation has adversely affected illegal funding received by  Maoists. Ahir, talking to media persons after taking part in the concluding session of the three- day workshop organised by the CRPF on interstate coordination among the Naxal infested States – “lWE Theatre Interstate Operations and Coordination,’ here on Friday also added that forces were also being modernized to tackle the menace more efficiently.

“Agencies which had been funding the Naxal outfits have completely been blocked automatically,” said Ahir. It was a major problem as despite repeated efforts it could not be stopped completely but with demonetisation we have got an opportunity to do that effectively, he added.

“It is also being worked out that the Maoists cannot take advantage of Jan Dhan accounts of the poor villagers,” said the Minister of State. He also expressed confidence that even the villagers of this country will  actively participate in the digital movement.

Ahir reiterated that the present Government intends to root out Naxalism from this country. “Rooting out Naxals from the country is our motive as it also the responsibility of the Centre…we are with all the States in dealing with the menace,” he said. During this session, officials from all ten States put their demands, he said.

“I told them that our Home Minister Rajnath Singh has sent a message that whatever demands have been raised by them will be taken up seriously by the Ministry and will also be fulfilled,” he said. The Minister further added that besides hampering the work of the Government, Maoists are also causing losses to the poor tribals.

“Work of the Government definitely is being hampered but a major loss has been created to the poor tribals as all the development works are being hindered in the remote tribal areas due to the presence of the Maoist cadres,” he said.

It is complete injustice to the tribal population that they are not been able to get the benefits of development as hindrances are created by the Maoists if the Government genuinely wants to provide basic infrastructure, skill development, schools, roads, houses under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana or bring out any development-related schemes in these remote areas, said the Minister.

“People are all waiting to see when the Government will find a solution to the problems being faced by them and develop these underdeveloped areas,” Ahir said.

“Our first priority is to uplift the poor tribals….they are still running behind by at least 150 years. We will put all our efforts to improve their life,” said the Minister.
