Demand intensifies to resume property registration in Tata command area

Published on:

he demand to resume the long-stalled property registration process in the Tata Command Area of Jamshedpur has gained fresh momentum, with Jamshedpur East MLA Purnima Sahu formally writing to Jharkhand’s Registration Department Minister Ramdas Soren, seeking urgent intervention.

The issue, which has remained unresolved for several years, has created widespread concern among residents, traders, and builders in the city. The letter from MLA Sahu comes in response to a representation made by the Singhbhum Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI), which highlighted the numerous difficulties being faced by citizens and the business community due to the continued suspension of property registration in the area.

In her letter to Minister Soren, MLA Purnima Sahu emphasized that the ongoing ban on the registration of shops, houses, land, and flats in the Tata Command Area has created an atmosphere of uncertainty and distress among the people. She noted that the absence of a legal framework for property transactions is directly affecting residential and commercial development in the region.

“Due to the halt in property registration, construction activities are being hampered, and ordinary citizens are unable to buy or sell property freely. The stagnation in the real estate market is obstructing the area’s development and also causing a significant loss of revenue to the state government,” the letter stated.

The MLA further pointed out that registration of properties had previously been conducted without difficulty in the Tata Command Area. However, in recent years, the process has come to a complete standstill, with no clear directives from the state administration. This has not only impacted individual property owners but also halted investment in infrastructure and housing projects.

Calling the situation “serious and detrimental to public interest,” Sahu urged the Registration Department to investigate the matter promptly and issue clear instructions to the concerned authorities to resume the registration process without further delay. She also appealed for a policy-level resolution that ensures long-term clarity and continuity for property transactions in the Tata lease area.

Business organizations and citizen groups have been consistently raising the issue, arguing that the prolonged freeze on registry operations is acting as a deterrent to urban growth in Jamshedpur. The Singhbhum Chamber of Commerce, in particular, has reiterated that resolving this issue would not only bring relief to hundreds of affected families and traders but also restore investor confidence in the local real estate and commercial sectors.

As public pressure mounts and stakeholders await a decision, all eyes are now on the state government and the Registration Department to see whether concrete action will be taken to break the deadlock and facilitate economic activity in one of Jharkhand’s key urban hubs.
