Demand for shifting Chutia Oil Depot gains momentum

The residents of Chutia locality in Ranchi are living in a constant fear because of the petrol depot situated in their vicinity. Their demand for shifting the oil depot away from population has gained momentum in the recent days.

“We are living in fear that any untoward incident may take place anytime. As too many banquet halls and hotels are proposed in this area. The Baratees who burst crackers during wedding season is the most fearful time for us. If a bit of spark enters the surroundings of depot, not only Chutia but whole Ranchi will get destroyed,” said the owner of a shop beside Oil Depot, Deepak Kumar Gupta.

The population around the Depot has increased at a fast pace in the recent years. The area is becoming crowded day by day with the emergence of new hotels, apartments and shops. Depot is increasing the fear among these denizens.“We are in constant fear if any accident occurs then nothing will be left. Our children cannot enjoy the festival of Diwali because if by mistake the sparkle of crackers enters the premises of the depot then a huge incident may occur,” said resident of Chutia, Raj Kumar Singh.

The eminent people of the locality have demanded to shift the oil depot from Chutia to some isolated area since a long time but till now no action has been taken to fulfill their demands.

FJCCI had already written many letters in order to make the shift of the oil depot possible but yet there is no answer from the district administration. “We had already written letters to DC, Ranchi and sent its copies senior officials, RMC and to the local administration demanding to shift the oil depot at the earliest. Population of Chutia is increasing; the place is becoming crowded and the location of the oil depot is very risky any big incident can take place any time. Till now we have not received any answer to our letters. If we will not get any answer soon then I will again write letter to the concerned authorities,” said Chamber President of FJCCI, Ranjeet Tiberwal.
