It was a chilling reminder of how rapes against minors are steadily rising, though the nation is on the boil after a five-year-old girl was tortured in the National Capital. On Wednesday night in Ranchi, a six-year-old girl was strangled to death after being raped at Doranda.
Her body was found dumped in an under-construction building in front of her house.
The girl went missing on Wednesday at around 2 pm after she returned from school and went out to play with friends nearby. Her frantic parents lodged a complaint around 6 pm at Doranda Police Station when they couldn’t find her.
“Post-mortem has confirmed that the girl was raped before being strangled,” said City SP Manoj Ratan Chauthe. “The family is clueless about the culprit. We are trying to gather some evidence and trying to come to some conclusion,” he added.
The shocked family has demanded stringent action against the culprit. “She went out to play but was missing half an hour later. We searched everywhere in the nearby houses. Then, we feared she had been abducted and reported it,” said the girl’s sister.
“We searched the whole night, but could not find her. Finally, her body was found in the morning. It cannot be explained in words what has been done with her. We want justice,” said her sister. The neighbours searched the area throughout the day as well as in the night. But the poor girl’s body was found assaulted and tied-up at 3 am on Thursday.
Blood samples gathered from the site have been sent to the Forensic Science laboratories (FSl). An FIR has been lodged against anonymous persons.
