Archana Kumari a girl from Patna has taken her admission in the first year of Degree College Manika in latehar. Patna is a village under Manika block. There have come girls in this college from Metlong village now the centre of two splinter groups of naxals — the TPC and the JJMP.
What Manika is can be seen that just on the day Governor was to come to this place the previous night unknown people lynched one JJMP ultra to death and injured one who wanted levy from construction amount of shouchalaya under Swachh Bharat Mission. Sources said name any village Dhoki, Chechanya, Metlong Barwaiyya, Bariyatu one thing is most common- villages have history of naxal crimes!
“Admission in the college has begun. Our chancellor Droupadi Murmu could not come to this college on Friday due to some problems with the chopper that was to bring her here but nevertheless she through a video clip spoke to us and students wherein she not only sent in her good wishes for the college but also expressed her sorrow for not being with us on the day of the start of this college on July 13,” said S N Singh the vice chancellor of NP university on Saturday.
He said this college will prove a milestone in higher education at such a place like Manika where remoteness and lack of facilities stare in faces of the people and the way girls are coming forward to take admission here from remote and difficult villages is a sign of change that is set to sweep here soon.
It was latehar administration that carried out the show right from arranging flowers for decoration to sprucing up rooms for the visit of the Governor. AC was fitted in one room. Washroom was upgraded. A fleet of about 50 people including officials worked day and night for this visit. For two successive days DC Rajiv Kumar and SP latehar Prashant Anand had their camp office in Manika overseeing the minutest of minute things there.
Similar was the case with the NP university 43 Kms away from Manika which despite having no communication at all from Raj Bhavan for this visit made hectic trips to Degree college Manika with load of officials to ensure that ‘all goes well with the academic front here’ where in VC S N Singh, Pro VC P K Poddar, Registrar Rakesh Kumar and professor in charge of this college M Ram inspected every nook and corner of this college to ensure that bench desk are in order, boys common room and girls common room are equipped , library gets books and finally no problem comes to students taking admission here .
VC said “ The NPU was in touch with the latehar administration all the time and had even prepared draft speech of the chancellor, readied the minute to minute programme and kept its officials in attendance to meet any situation there without being any interventionist or obstructionist for the latehar administration.”
He said our Pro VC P K Poddar rounded up the show with his vote of thanks which was worth listening as he said no big things but things that matter most for a college to develop.
