Defaulter public distribution system dealers in latehar are to ‘donate’ one big dust bin as part of their failure to meet the deadline of the registration of renewal of licence which is an annual ritual for the PDS dealer.
Sources said the sub divisional office latehar which registers the application of the PDS dealers for annual renewal of licence had identified about two dozen such dealers who have missed the dead line of registration for renewal of licence which was December 31.
Such PDS dealers have been motivated by the SDO latehar Varun Ranjan a young IAS officer to donate one dust bin to which barring three or four PDS dealers the remaining one have agreed to donate one dust bin each.
Varun Ranjan confirming this said ‘ The defaulter PDS dealers who had missed the deadline are most willing to donate the dust bin except three or four among them who have their own reluctance and reservation nevertheless I and my office here have specifically asked the dealers to donate dust bin with love and concern for cleanliness popularly known as Swachhta Abhiyan’.
Varun Ranjan said ‘ I hit upon this idea to spread the message of cleanliness and urged dealers to come forward towards this noble cause of Swachhta’.
He said the idea is that some of the dust bins will be given to thela wallahs doing business across NH 75 here like selling samosas, jalebis, dhuska, pakouri , omlette etc and the leftovers and the leaf plates are then left littered on the side of the NH 75 presenting a poor look of any NH.
Asked that the disposal of filled dust bin be equally given attention Varun said ‘ This is a major issue for all of us to find as to where the garbage of the dust bin will be disposed of’.
Reminded that it is a common practice to pour in the garbage to the already choked drains across NH 75 Varun said this practice is definitely pretty common .
He said the petty seller on NH 75 who will be having the dust bin for his customers will be asked to devise a proper and suitable dumping of the filled garbage of the dust bin.
He also planned to ask the donor PDS dealers to keep this for public use in their own vicinity.
Sources said the registration for renewal of licence of PDS shop has been the most easiest and transparent this time where the renewal fee was just 75 rupees as sources said year back it used to be around 2,000 to 2,500 as many hands were then greased.
Varun Ranjan said, "This time the dealers came, paid 75 rupees or so , stood for a couple of hours and went back for their work while in the past it was an affair of three months wherein the dealers were to cough up more than the government fee for registration of renewal of licence."
