Deed writers, stamp vendors end strike

Published on:

Bringing a much needed relief to thousands of people across the State, the month long strike of State stamp vendors and deed writers over implementation of only ‘online-registration mode’, adopted by the State Government ended on Sunday and Monday respectively. The strike ended after Minister Annapurna Devi’s gave a written notification to make manual and online registration optional for all.

“The job of these employees was affected as the State Government made it mandatory to make online payments for any kind of registration like marriage, land, gift or agreement. Earlier, these deed writers would make the deed for the same types of registration and manage payments for the same manually,” said Shambhu Shankar, a resident of Pithoria who was unable to process his land registration for this strike for past 15 days.

Elaborating the hurdles faced by the State denizens, Mandar resident Mastana who was coming here for land registration for past 25 days but failed to proceed due the strike said, “The online registration created difficulty for us as most of the people are not computer-friendly and do not have net-banking facilities. We would directly come to the deed writers and ask them to prepare the registration document. Moreover, we knew that stamp papers are available from stamp vendors near

registry office and not from branches of Canara bank. It is good that now the State Government has allowed

purchasing such documents from bank as well as stamp

vendors.”
