The counting of votes for the Ranchi parliamentary constituency on Thursday will be done in six counting rooms, each dedicated to one of the six assembly segments that come under the periphery of the Ranchi parliamentary constituency, a press communiqué from District Election Officer Rai Mahimat Ray’s office said on Tuesday.
Ray visited the strong room in Pandra along with Senior Superintendent of Police Anish Gupta on Tuesday to review the arrangements for the counting day.
He also gave instructions to the officials concerned to follow the set rules of counting and ensure timely conclusion of the counting process.
“Updates on the counting of votes will also be available on the Election Commission of India’s (ECI) Suvidha App. A giant screen has been installed in the strong room to keep everyone informed about the latest developments on the day of the counting,” Ray said.
The six assembly segments under the Ranchi parliamentary constituency are Ichagarh, Silli, Khijri, Ranchi, Hatia and Kanke. Besides one room dedicated to each of these six Assembly segments, a separate room will be dedicated for counting the votes cast through postal ballot.
At least 21 rounds of counting will be done on Thursday to decide the winner in Ranchi. Each of the rooms will have a minimum of 16 counting tables.
The DEO has instructed that no smart phone or gadget should be allowed inside the strong room. He recently chaired a meeting with the counting agents of all the political parties in Ranchi and asked them to follow the norms set by the ECI.
Ranchi went to polls on May 6 in the second phase of the 17th General Elections in Jharkhand this year. Around 65 per cent of the 19,10,955 electorates turned up at polling stations to cast their votes here. The constituency witnessed a tough contest between Bharatiya Janata Party’s Sanjay Seth, Congress party’s Subodh Kant Sahay and BJP’s incumbent parliamentarian Ramtahal Choudhary, who contested the elections as an independent candidate this time.
