Jharkhand residents observed the death anniversary of Bhagwan Birsa Munda on Sunday. While observing this day members of Jharkhand Mines Area Coordination Committee (JMACC) has demanded to declare Bhagwan Birsa Munda death anniversary as national holiday.
While comparing the contribution of Birsa Munda with father of the nation Mahatma Gandhi, Jharkhand Mines Area Coordination Committee spokesperson Alice Cherowa said, “like Mahatma Gandhi, Birsa Munda is also reckoned as a freedom fighter. Bhagwan Birsa also struggled a lot for tribal people to provide them their rights and to prevent their land from the clutches of non-tribals. He ended the struggle of tribals’ treated as bonded labors in their own land. So to recognise the contribution he made for the people we want that the Government declare his death anniversary as national holiday.” The members of JMACC protested in front of Birsa mausoleum situated in Ranchi, that place frequented by who’s who of the State on Sunday including Governor Syed Ahmed.
The protestors also demanded to build a museum related to Jharkhand Andolan near the mausoleum and to assure respect and social security of those who have struggled for the cause of Jharkhand. They also organised a signature campaign to make their demand more potent. The city people also gave their full support on the demands made by the members of JMACC as large number of people participated in the signature campaign.
General Secretary of ‘Jharkhand Organisation of Struggling Human’ Arjun Samad said, “Government deliver flowery speeches on dais about Birsa Munda and his contribution, praise those people who struggled for the cause of Jharkhand, but never provide any kind of help to their family members. Even Birsa Munda family members are never felicitated despite his enormous contribution. We want that the Government should award these strugglers and fighters and provide all kind of help to their families”.
