Can a dead man be found workingIJ After 76 days of his cremation, Kamlesh Ram is in the list of job holders under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Gurantee Act (MGNREGA) in latehar’s Barwadih shown working and earning his wages, which are getting  credited to his post office account.

This shocking revelation has been made by NREGA Watch, an organisation working to improve the rural job scheme.Making revelation related to the misappropriation James Herunj, a activist showed the death certificate of the job card holder Kamlesh Ram of Ookamarn.Ram was shown dead in the official death certificate issued on October 15, 2010.

"Here is two different dates of Muster Rolls. One Muster Roll ( 1696271) showed the murdered Kamlesh Ram ( job card number 50062) working on a MGNREGA scheme from 01.01.2011 to 06.01.2011 when as per his death certificate Kamlesh Ram was dead on 15.10.2010 itself, said Herunj.Ram was shown to have worked for six days and his wages at the rate of 100 rupees a day at that time came to be 600 rupees.Another Muster Roll ( 1693226) which Herunj showed claimed this murdered Ram to have worked from 10.3.2011 to 15.3.2011.

"A murdered MGNREGA job card holder was thus working and earning. Perhaps this is not the end of the morbid saga of fraud and duping in the scheme. One account in the name of Kamlesh Ram was with the Chhipadohar post office. And this account was opened just a day ahead his death 14.10.2010," said Herunj. All the wages earned by Kamlesh have been credited to his post office account and withdrawn as well, added the member of the NREGA Watch. When contacted Deputy Commissioner of latehar Mukesh Kumar expressed his concern saying such a fraud cannot be ruled out in MGNREGA and asked for more details on this for pursuance of the matter.

Mukesh Kumar added, "The moment  I heard of the passing away of this job card holder my intuition was something foul must have been done with this registered job card holder by unscrupulous people to earn some bucks. But let me find the fact further and the guilty will be axed."
