DC Palamu's janta durbar sends out strong message

Published on:

Deputy commissioner Palamu Amit Kumar held his maiden janta durbar in Tarhassi in Panki assembly constituency which is all set for a by poll following the sudden demise of its sitting Congress MlA Bidesh Singh last month. This assembly constituency is headless now and DC’s arrival here for janta durbar holds far more meanings said sources.

DC Amit said ‘We came across the problem of drinking water, supplies (read food supplies) and deliverance through PDS.’

However DC’s janta durbar in Tarhassi had far more echoes than heard in the durbar. Sources said this young IAS officer of 2010 batch who had had his probation in Palamu about four or five years back chose Tarhassi as his venue of first janta durbar to send out a message to people, political leaders and block and circle level officers that this Panki constituency is right on the radar of the administration.

It could be a sheer coincidence when DC was holding his janta durbar in Tarhassi Bittu Singh son of the deceased MlA BIdesh Singh was confabulating with the party workers on the same day in Tarhassi where stands the huge immovable property and belongings of Bidesh Singh. The gathering there in Singh’s mansion wanted Bittu to contest the coming by poll in Panki.

Exactly the same Monday in Ranchi Bidesh Singh’s arch rival Shashibhushan Mehta joined Jharkhand Jan Mukti Morcha said one special invitee of JMM akhtar Zaman here in Daltonganj.

Sources said the rise in political heat in this left wing extremist hit Panki assembly constituency which forms the Chatra lS segment DC Palamu’s interfacing with the commoners in Tarhassi on Monday was more than meets the eyes.

Administrative sources said DC’s sitting for a couple of hours in Tarhassi emanated a signal to all including the police ones to keep a tab on the pulse of Panki assembly constituency.

Sources said latehar’s Balumath is well connected to Panki in Palamu and last month’s gory incident in Balumath where two cattle traders were hanged to death from a branch of tree could be made an issue in the by poll in Panki for a polarisation of votes.

A participant of Tarhassi janta durbar of this DC preferring anonymity said ‘DC saw more things than he heard and this would help the administration in the coming days when Panki will go to polls here’.

Tarhassi is no small place. It is a haven for stone crushers. There is an affiliated degree college set up by former Ranchi Congress MP Subodh Kant Sahay. The BDO/CO offices and their quarters in Tarhassi bespeak of semi modernism here.
