DC flags off vehicle for voter's awareness

While the notification for second phase of polls is scheduled to be issued on Friday, Ranchi DC Vinay Kumar Choubey on Thursday flagged off three vehicles for creating awareness among voters ahead of the polls scheduled to be conducted on December 9 in five Assembly constituencies of the district.

The awareness drive will focus on six blocks of the district and will highlight the significance of voting through a series of acts such as street plays and dance to be performed by a team of artists accompanying the vehicle. A vehicle will stay for three days in a block. Notably, the voter awareness drive is the best example of private-public partnership in increasing voting percentage as a leading public sector bank is has donated one vehicle for publicity whereas the remaining two have been rolled out by District Education Office and District Public Relations Office.

The vehicles will carry artists representing Indian Social Welfare Institute, Pragati Parishad, and Prajywalit Bihar Organisation. Considering the low turnout during lok Sabha elections the decision to step up voter awareness drive was a much felt need in the assembly elections. While the nomination process for the first phase is almost over, nomination for second phase will begin from today which includes Tamar under Ranchi district.

Meanwhile, Ranchi DC provided valuable information about election to officials undergoing training for conducting elections and supervising election related activities.  The training session was also attended by officials of the district administration.

Incidentally, 431 cases related to property have been registered between October 25 and November 5 and 18 cases have been registered by respective district election offices for violating the model code of conduct imposed in the wake of assembly elections in Jharkhand. As many as 107 people have been arrested and 256 raids have been conducted to ensure hassle free elections in the State.

The notification for second phase of the five phase polls in the state will be issued on Friday. Polling will take place in 20 constituencies out of the 81 seats in the state many of which are naxal infested.
