The deputy commissioner Amitabh Kaushal, who carried out surprise inspection of several drains in Mango, on Friday issued directive to the civic bodies across city including Jamshedpur notified area committee (JNAC), Mango notified area committee (MNAC) and Jugsalai municipality to ensure that all drains coming in their respective area are cleaned before June 15 (the tentative date for advent of monsoon).
Officials went on to inform that the urban bodies have started taking steps to deal with the water clogging in the city. As per the plans, the urban bodies will be outsourcing the cleaning of big drains (depth of more than four feet) to private parties to overcome its manpower shortage while smaller drains will be cleaned regularly by its own staff on a roster basis.
“We are taking every step to meet flood threats. I have already asked the local urban bodies to start the cleaning of drains in their areas and a formal directive has also been issued asking the civic bodies to clean and desilt the drains before June 15. I would be conducting inspection of different areas to see if the directive is being followed or not,” said Amitabh Kaushal.
About six drains were inspected by the deputy commissioner in the presence of Mango notified area committee special officer Jagadish Prasad Yadav.
The inspection of drains by deputy commissioner at Mango was done at near Parasnagar (Dimna Road), Kunwar Basti, Chepapul Road near Amarjyoti School, Kalikanagar (near Mayank Mrinal Hospital), near Dimna Residency (in Dimna Roundabout), near Moon City (Dimna Road), while encroachment was found at drain near Moon City and near Dimna Roundabout.
